Edward James Powers is an artist working in experimental photography and printmaking. His practice includes lensless and low-fidelity photography, alternative photographic processes, and printmaking that often begins with photographic images. His work focuses on quiet places, overlooked objects, and moments of stillness, embracing imperfection, material, process, and the changes that occur when images move from camera to paper, plate, and print.
Before focusing on visual art, Edward spent many years in theater as a technical director and designer. That background in building environments, solving problems, and working with materials continues to shape his practice. Craftsmanship, experimentation, and process remain central to the way each image and object is made.
His current work moves between pinhole and toy-camera photography, cyanotype and other alternative processes, collagraph, drypoint, and experimental forms of printmaking. He also produces small self-published projects, including the Imperfect Capture zine.
Across these different processes, Edward is interested in attention, time, and transformation—how ordinary subjects can become something unexpected through sustained looking and physical making. Images are edited only lightly, if at all, allowing the qualities of the camera, material, plate, ink, and process to remain visible in the finished work.
