Edward James Powers is an artist and photographer whose work explores lensless photography, alternative photographic processes, and experimental image making. His images often focus on quiet places, overlooked objects, and moments of stillness, embracing imperfection, long exposure, and the subtle transformations that occur when simple tools are used with patience and attention.
Before focusing on photography and visual work, Edward spent many years in theater as a technical director and designer. That background in building environments and working behind the scenes continues to influence his artistic practice, where craftsmanship, experimentation, and process play an important role in the making of each image and object.
His current work includes ongoing explorations in lensless photography, alternative processes such as cyanotype and other experimental techniques, and small self-published projects including the Imperfect Capture zine. Across these projects, Edward is interested in how attention and time can transform ordinary subjects into images that invite slower looking and reflection.
Most of the images are edited only lightly, if at all, allowing the qualities of the camera and the light-sensitive material—whether film or digital—to remain visible.
